Watercolor Reflectionss
Over the course of making Watercolor Reflections, my watercolor abstracts became larger and my stitches less precise. The series is comprised of works containing two pieces of paper, each with a watercolor abstraction, stitched together using an imprecise application. These works are an investigation of what occurs emotionally in identity formation and its presentation, specifically how queer and immigrant identity co-create each other. I poked holes in my sense of familiarity – of the medium and assumptions of self – while holding the emotional turmoil that arose from internal conflict. Repetitive movements of sewing, a form of craft, offered respite from the anxieties that arose from acts of critical reflexivity.
